Everything Nearby, Minutes from the Cabin
Summit After Dark sits about 4 minutes from the Pigeon Forge Parkway. Spend your days at Dollywood, on the trails or downtown in Gatlinburg, then come back to the glow court, the indoor pool and the rooftop hot tub. Drive times below are approximate from the cabin — allow extra time on busy weekends, holidays and event days.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park
America’s most visited national park is about 20 minutes away. Plan on a full day — scenic drives, waterfalls, wildlife and big views.

Cades Cove
About 1 hour
An 11-mile loop through an open valley with historic cabins, churches and some of the best wildlife viewing in the park. From May through September, the loop is closed to cars on Wednesdays for walkers and cyclists.

Kuwohi & Newfound Gap
About 50 minutes to 1 hour
Kuwohi (formerly Clingmans Dome) is the park’s highest point, with a short, steep paved walk to an observation tower. Its road is open April through November. Stop at Newfound Gap on the way for big views.

Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail
About 35 minutes
A narrow, one-way loop just outside Gatlinburg past mountain streams, old homesteads and the trailhead for Grotto Falls. Open May through November.

Hiking & Waterfalls
Varies
Easy favorites include Grotto Falls off Roaring Fork and Abrams Falls in Cades Cove. Laurel Falls has been closed for a major trail rebuild, so check the park’s trail updates before you go.
Good to Know Before You Go
- National park parking tags: any vehicle parked in the park for more than 15 minutes needs a parking tag — $5 a day, $15 a week or $40 a year. Tags must be physical (printed or bought at the park) and displayed in your vehicle. Entry itself is free.
- Seasonal roads: Kuwohi Road and Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail close in winter, and the Cades Cove loop is closed to cars on Wednesdays from May through September.
- Wildlife: bears are common. Keep at least 50 yards away, never feed them, and don’t stop in the road to watch.
- Traffic: the Parkway gets busy on weekends, holidays and event days. Leave early for Dollywood and the park, and use back roads when you can.
- Cell service: coverage is spotty in the park, so download maps before you head out.
Details change seasonally. Check the park’s current conditions before you go.
